World of Goo is a puzzle game with a strong emphasis on physics published for the Wii console, and for the three major PC operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (IA-32 natively on x86-64 libraries through standard 32-bit1). Produced by 2D Boy, an independent video game developer made by Kyle Gabler and Ron Caramel, both former employees of Electronic Arts. He was nominated for the Seumas McNally grand prize, the Award for Design Innovation and Technical Excellence at the Independent Games Festival. Was released for the Nintedo Wii in America on 13 October 2008. On 11 November 2008, 2D Boy announced that World of Goo on WiiWare would be released in Europe instead of a normal launch.
The idea of World of Goo was started by two former developers at Electronic Arts, Kyle Gabler and Ron Caramel. Gabler himself created a small proof of concept for several years before entitled Tower of Goo.2 Developers estimate the production cost of around $ 10,000, including rent, food and minimal equipment. The success of the game is attributed to the web presence of the same, and the awards made in the Independent Games Festival at the Game Developers Conference in 2007.
It also involved the community, to which was delegated the translation into Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish for the European version that was released in December 2008.6 According to the company's own estimates, between 80% and 90 % copies of the PC version of World of Goo would be unlawful as a result of software counterfeiting.
